Island of Capri

Famous people have chosen Capri as their home not only because of its beautiful surroundings, its moderate climate but also because of its magical atmosphere. Today it has become a popular tourist resort and to visit it on a day trip alone is to get a completely wrong impression, you need to stay a while in order to get the feel of this very special island.
Anacapri is the second most important town on the island and is set out along the gentle slopes that descend from Monte Solaro; it has retained its characteristics as a typical Mediterranean village. It is an ideal holiday choice and a renowned health resort that enjoys the benefits of an extraordinary mild climate.
Sit in one of the bars and enjoy a cappuccino while watching the people go by, then visit the local church of San Michele with the incredible majolica floor or take the chairlift to the top of the island and have a picnic, then slowly walk down the mountain path, through the valley of Cetrella with its wealth of rare flowers and plants, to the hermitage perched on the precipice overlooking the bay of Salerno. Watch the sunset from the splendid gardens of the Villa San Michele where during the summer months live concerts accompany the mythical beauty of the passing of the day.
Enjoy the designer boutiques and sophisticated restaurants of Capri town, have a drink in the renowned ‘piazzetta’ and rub shoulders with the rich and famous Visit the Charterhouse of St. James and its museum and listen to memorable concerts held in its courtyard surrounded by the elegant and sophisticated, explore the nearby Gardens of Augustus with its breathtaking view of the landscape of Capri and of the fascinating outline of the Faraglioni rocks rising up out of the extraordinary azure sea. Walk to the Natural Arch and take in this evocative southern coast of the island with its picturesque coves, inlets, strange rock formations and wild beauty.

 Within walking distance of the property lies the archaeological area of one of the most imposing and magnificent Roman villas of the Imperial period on the island: the Villa Damecuta haunted by the figure of Tiberius and his myth. Then there is the newly inaugurated fortification ‘eco-museum’, a splendid path along the south-western coast where there was a memorable battle between the English troops of Nelson and those of Napoleon and ceramic tiles describe plants of botanical interest and the historical events that took place here .

A boat trip around the island is a must; exploring the rugged coast, wild rock formations and grottoes, therefore being able to admire the whole of Capri in all its dramatic majesty. A friend of ours is the proud owner of a typical island fishing boat ‘gozzo’ so we would be more than happy to organise your trip in his capable and honest hands.

Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi

If you wish to go further afield catch a hydrofoil or ferry and go to Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, the archaeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum, the Capodimonte museum in Naples, They are all within a day trip from the island.

Cars are not allowed on the island of Capri unless you are a resident, there is a very efficient local bus service and the bus stop is only 50 m from the gate of the properties.

Otherwise you may like to rent a scooter or how about a little walk (25 min .to the village or 15 min. to the Blue Grotto – swimming, restaurants and bars).
